Senior Financial Controller

About the role

The Senior Financial Controller will lead statutory reporting, tax compliance, audit and financial risk management for the British Council’s operations in Pakistan, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements and regulatory filings.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee local tax matters, advise business and finance teams on regulatory requirements, and coordinate with external tax advisors and authorities.
• Manage financial accounting across P2P, O2C, R2R and cash/liquidity management in partnership with the Retained Shared Service Center.
• Lead and mentor the Pakistan financial control team, drive IFRS reporting and local cash‑flow reporting.
• Support monthly close, financial compliance and contribute to Finance strategy and culture.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with at least 5 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong knowledge of local tax laws, corporate income taxation, sales tax, withholding tax and statutory reporting.
• Proven experience in financial controllership within commercial or charitable organisations.
• Excellent communication, influencing and relationship‑building skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• ERP experience (SAP preferred).
• Strong financial reporting, accounting, closing and compliance capabilities.
