QBO Construction Accounting Specialist – WIP & Job Costing

About the role

We are seeking a QBO Construction Accounting Specialist to own the monthly accounting cycle for U.S.-based construction clients. The role focuses on job costing, work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedules, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, and accrual‑based financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules using the percentage‑of‑completion method, including cost‑to‑complete, earned revenue, and over/under‑billing calculations.
• Review project profitability reports, investigate anomalies, and ensure accurate gross profit by job.
• Assign costs correctly to jobs, resolve unassigned COGS, and maintain proper project tagging.
• Coordinate with client project managers to gather contract values, change orders, and status updates.
• Record monthly COGS accruals, post WIP adjustment entries, and execute full month‑end close activities (bank, AP/AR, balance‑sheet reconciliations, payroll review).
• Classify expenses between COGS and SG&A, and apply ASC 842 lease accounting where required.
• Produce monthly financial packages including P&L, balance sheet, and job‑level profitability reports.

Required profile

• Professional experience in construction industry accounting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, and accrual accounting.
• Ability to work independently with U.S. clients and communicate financial insights to non‑accounting stakeholders.
• Detail‑oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and proactive issue identification.
