Senior Data Scientist – LLM & AI Focus

About the role

NorthBay is seeking a Senior Data Scientist with deep expertise in large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI. You will lead the creation of AI‑driven solutions, turning complex data into actionable business insights while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and optimisation of LLM‑driven systems and agentic AI workflows.
• Develop and manage data pipelines for extracting, structuring, and processing large datasets to support AI initiatives.
• Integrate LLMs such as OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Gemini, and Llama into data workflows to enhance automation and business intelligence.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to identify AI adoption opportunities.
• Build Python‑based tools and scripts for data processing, visualisation, and decision automation.
• Research and benchmark cutting‑edge open‑source and proprietary AI models.
• Implement data monitoring tools and automated pipelines to ensure model accuracy, reliability and scalability.
• Contribute to Generative AI initiatives and experiment with new AI frameworks and agentic architectures.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional experience in data science, data engineering or AI‑focused roles.
• Hands‑on experience with LLMs (e.g., GPT‑4/5, Claude, Gemini, Llama).
• Strong background in agentic AI systems and their business applications.
• Expert‑level proficiency in Python for data manipulation, API integration, prompt engineering and workflow automation.
• Solid understanding of data structuring, processing and visualisation.
• Proven track record of building and deploying data‑centric and AI‑assisted solutions.
• Experience leading cross‑functional teams and delivering complex technical projects.
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical outputs into actionable business insights.
